Are MedIterranean Marine prOtected areaS efficient against wArming effects?


The main objective of this project is to develop an innovative and scientifically based management of coralligenous habitats in Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) that accounts for the threats linked to climate change.

We will address three main complementary objectives: 

1) to describe the pattern of demographic and genetic structures and to infer the underlying eco-evolutionary processes for the targeted species in each MPA; 

2) to characterize the response to thermal stress in a panel of selected populations with contrasted genetic and demographic characteristics; 

3) to combine and integrate these data in order to estimate the degree of vulnerability of each species and to develop scientific-based proactive management strategies to limit climate change impacts in each MPA.
